POSEC time management's basic tenet is that for one to be capable of handling things that they may face, one needs to first bring to attention their daily personal responsibilities. This involves proper time management among the other things.  The acronym POSEC stands for Prioritizing by Organizing, Streamlining, Economizing and Contributing.

The time management system known as POSEC allows one to better organize larger goals into smaller, more concrete projects. By making a priority of personal tasks using the POSEC method, all of your goals will be more possible to attain. POSEC works well for some, though not necessarily for everyone.

The method or school of time management known by the acronym POSEC provides rules for assisting people to organize their goals by level of importance and priority. Correctly carrying out this method leads to upward movement on the "Needs Hierarchy" developed by Maslow.

The time management school known as POSEC is comprised of the steps listed below.

Prioritize - Define your tasks according to your goals and prioritize your allocation of time.  This means to tackle your daily tasks in order of importance so as to create personal efficiency and team effectiveness. The POSEC method of time management is loosely based on the Maslow's hierarchy of needs.

Organize – Planning the flow and structure of the tasks one has to carry out regularly to attain their goals. Organizing one's work properly ensures that one has the essential things in life such as food, shelter and clothing thus giving them a feeling of security and freedom. Various tasks have to be carried out with proper planning such as being punctual, monitoring activities and arranging your work place in such a way that anything could be found with ease.

Streamline - Streamlining is generally used in reference to daily tasks that one is not always eager to do, but must nevertheless be completed. Dishwashing, cleaning, and other household chores are examples of such tasks. Making such work simpler and faster by streamlining leads to higher efficiency and quality of work.

Economize - Budgeting your time involves those things you need to do eventually, or would like to do now, but are not urgently needed. Budgeting would include learning a new skill, engaging in projects you like taking part in, and devoting some of your days to "me time," in addition to others. These jobs are too often at the tail end of our list of what is important.

Contribute- Contribution can be done by paying attention to those tasks whose measure of benefit may not be evident immediately, but make a difference in the long run.   These contributions to humanity as acts such as kindness and thoughtfulness, among others.  According to Maslow's understanding of the motivation, contribution involves the social setting where one gives back to the world, thereby making your goals more attainable.
